Reward and Recognition

The Reward and Recognition schemes available from academic years 24/25 onwards are summarised below.

Schools and Directorates are allocated annual budgets to award Celebrating Success and Lump Sum awards. The budgets for August 2024 to July 2025 will be communicated by email to Head of School and Directorate in the next few weeks. This email will also confirm when the Celebrating Success system and the Lump Sum system will be open and nominations can be made.

 Celebrating Success

Provide a gift voucher up the value of £100 with an online scheme to provide immediate recognition for a job well done or for demonstrating positive professional behaviours.

For all employees, all year round.

Lump Sum Awards

Award a one-off payment (normally for a minimum of £250) for a specific or short-term contribution that is worthy of particular note and reflects the University’s Values and Professional Behaviours.

For all employees, all year round.

Accelerated Pay Progression

Apply for accelerated pay progression (an additional increment or contribution point) to show recognition of staff who have made an exceptional contribution within their role on a sustained basis, and who have consistently demonstrated the University’s values and professional behaviours and leadership principles (the 3Rs- Resourceful, Responsible and Respectful).

For Grades 2 – 8. To note that employees who have not received an award within the last 2 years are eligible to be nominated. Employees who have been nominated within the last 2 years but have not been successful are eligible for further nomination at the next opportunity. Employees who have been successful in either academic promotion or research staff G6-7 promotion within the last 12 months are not eligible to be considered for a consolidated pay award in the same academic year.

Grade 6 to 7 Researcher Promotion

For promoting research staff who have demonstrated independence as a researcher.

For Research staff Grade 6. To note that applicants are expected to have been employed at the University and to have held their Grade 6 Researcher position for at least 2 years and demonstrate they meet the required promotion criteria.

Takes place on an annual basis.

Long Service Awards

An email and certificate with gift vouchers to the value of £200 for all employees upon completion of 21 years' continuous service with the University.

For all employees, all year round.

Professorial Annual Pay Review

The primary purpose of the annual review is the requirement for Professorial colleagues to report on their activities and achievements over the previous 12 months. Where appropriate, the Advisory Group will recommend either a consolidated award (i.e. an additional increment), a non- consolidated award (i.e. a lump sum payment normally set at £2000), or advancement to a higher zone (in cases where this is applied for).

For Professors (excludes members of the Leadership Group, UEB and the Vice-Chancellor). To note that employees are not normally eligible for review within the first 12 months of appointment or internal promotion.

Takes place on an annual basis.

Grade 9 Senior Staff Pay Review

The primary purpose of the annual review for colleagues to report on their activities and achievements over the previous 12 months. Where appropriate, the Advisory Group will recommend either a non-consolidated award (i.e. a lump sum payment normally set at £2000) or a consolidated award (i.e.an additional increment).

For Grade 9 Professional & Managerial colleagues. To note that employees are not normally eligible for review within the first 12 months of their appointment or internal promotion.

Takes place on an annual basis.

 

Leadership Group Pay Review

The primary purpose of the annual review is for colleagues to report on their activities and achievements over the previous 12 months. Where appropriate, the Advisory Group will recommend either a consolidated award (i.e. an additional increment), a non- consolidated award (i.e. a lump sum payment normally set at £2000), or advancement to a higher zone (in cases where this is applied for).

For Head of Schools, Deans
