Many critical problems could be tackled through greater international cooperation in weather and climate science.
We are actively pursuing opportunities for match funding of the Fellowship scheme so that the scheme may be made permanent and more visits of young Japanese scientists can be supported.
A further expansion of the scheme could include long-term visits by University of Reading scientists to institutions in Japan.
Through the generous donation made by Sir Brian Hoskins, we are able to support an annual visit from a talented young researcher every year for the next decade. This decade will be critical for climate action and for advancing our understanding of how climate is affecting destructive extreme events.
Recognising the importance of nurturing these relations, the University of Reading does not charge bench fees or overheads for visiting scholars. Funding is used only to support their travel and subsistence allowing them and their home institutions to better establish scientific links.
