Background
Kelly Lloyd is a transdisciplinary artist, essayist, and educator who focuses on issues of representation and knowledge production and prioritises public-facing collaborative research. Lloyd earned her B.A. from Oberlin College in Studio Art and Africana Studies (2008), and her M.F.A in Painting & Drawing and M.A. in Visual & Critical Studies from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (2015). She is currently studying at the University of Oxford's Ruskin School of Art and Wadham College for her DPhil in Practice-Led Fine Art funded by an Open Oxford Cambridge Doctoral Training Partnership Studentship and All Souls Graduate AHRC Fellowship.
Lloyd has taught at Oberlin College, Lady Doak College, School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Ruskin School of Art, Glasgow School of Art, and Goldsmiths School of Art. She collaborates with Suzanne Gold and Michal Lynn Shumate on HAIR CLUB, and Shannon Stratton on Party as Form; and she began interviewing art workers about their livelihoods in 2017, and in 2021, Lloyd launched This Thing We Call Art, a podcast and online archive featuring excerpts from these interviews.
