Michelle Tomlinson

Michelle is an experienced architect with comprehensive knowledge in the field of architecture and design, including collaboration with artists, museums and galleries internationally.

She has over a decade of experience leading projects in architectural practice, specialising in designing and delivering award-winning residential, masterplans and educational schemes. Her experience of leading high-profile projects, for some of the UK’s top design-led practices, varies from small retrofit to large urban regeneration and mixed-use developments. She has a particular interest in social value, high-quality design and the importance of soundscapes in urban environments.

Her contribution to design governance and education of the built environment ranges from her experience as a Design Review Panel member to being an educator and mentor in various Universities. All of which have inspired and informed her approach to design pedagogy.

In addition to her practice work, Michelle has delivered innovative education in undergraduate courses at Universities across the UK for over a decade, including the Manchester School of Architecture, and has co-led a design unit at De Montfort University. She has been a guest critic for various Universities, including Oxford Brookes and the University of Cardiff. She has been set up mentor schemes in architectural practice, as well and mentoring students at the University of East London. She was involved in the pilot scheme for the RIBA’s national programme for Architectural Ambassadors and is also an RIBA Part III Examiner at the University of Westminster. Her commitment to architecture and the education of individuals into understanding architecture's wider social benefits is illustrated by regular nominations of her student’s design work for AJ prizes and the RIBA Bronze President’s Medal Student Award.
