The School of Architecture

The Reading School of Architecture's flagship building sits in the centre of the London Road campus, located a short distance from Whiteknights campus and the town centre.

We foster a culture of drawing, making and the theories behind these. We offer learning tools and techniques used in architectural practice and research, including the latest digital design and visualisation technology, and a range of workshops and activities.

Dedicated design studios

You will have seven-day-a-week access to our refurbished creative design studio, allowing you to work flexibly, at a time that suits you or when inspiration strikes. This space is open to all levels of study.

The studios and environment we create are similar to the collaborative working environments of professional architects.

Assigned workspaces

Both undergraduate and master’s students have a designated desk and creative space in a secure design studio.

Work uninterrupted on your projects, with no having to pack up at the end of the day – leave your project work out for easy access, allowing for a more efficient way of working.

Tools and workshop

Our students have priority access to a modelmaking workshop and dedicated technical support.

We offer workshops and activities in areas such as:

  • drawing and mapping in the field
  • model and architectural photography
  • casting in concrete and plaster
  • digital fabrication technologies such as 3D printing, vacuum forming, laser cutting and digital cutting of thin materials.

Interactive test ground

The old library on London Road Campus, University of Reading

Our beautiful London Road campus has various green spaces, which students often use as an architectural test ground for their models.

With only two academic disciplines based on this campus (including Architecture), this calm and spacious environment makes our community even more personal.

On-campus museums

Students often find creative inspiration in historical objects from our three unique on-campus museums – the Ure Museum of Greek Archaeology, the Cole Museum of Zoology, and the Museum of English Rural Life.
