Studio work

Utilise your personal studio space to work on projects, and develop your creative ideas.

Lectures

Lectures provide insight into key concepts and theories that inform studio work. We regularly welcome internationally-renowned architects and specialists as guest lecturers.

Our facilities at London Road

The heart of the School of Architecture is located in a redesigned and refitted character building, re-purposing an old library.

The building reflects our ethos and replicates the working environment of architects, with studio spaces and advanced technologies.

Dedicated studio space

Daily access to your own creative workspace within the School allows you to work uninterrupted on your projects throughout your course.

Tools and workshops

Experiment with our range of advanced digital technologies including 3D printing, laser-cutting and immersive virtual reality environments.

We also offer workshops and activities in other areas such as life drawing, model and architectural photography, as well as casting in concrete and plaster.

Work experience

Develop your design expertise as you work on real projects with established local, national and international architects.

Past graduates have secured placements at practices like ACG, Broadway Malyan, Fletcher Priest, Grimshaw and Metaphor.

Career and application support is available to secure summer internships and work experience.

RIBA mentoring scheme

You will have the opportunity to participate in RIBA Future Architects student mentoring scheme and benefit from personal guidance from an architect mentor.

As a mentee you will:

  • be introduced to life in practice and gain practical advice on working as an architect
  • have the opportunity to reflect on your goals and direction; develop key skills and access one-to-one support
  • gain advice and guidance on future employment and after successful completion of the scheme, receive a reference for CV inclusion.
It was really handy that Reading had the contacts to help us get summer jobs. During my time in practice I was able to expand on the skills I'd gained from my studies and apply them in my final year.
