We are involved in a range of outreach activities with the aim of promoting, enhancing and enriching mathematics and statistics in schools.

We are keen to develop close relationships with students and teachers in secondary schools and colleges, and can provide support in a number of ways.

STEMNET

A number of staff in the Department, and scientists working locally, are STEMNET Ambassadors. They support teachers to demonstrate how Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects relate to the world of work. They show pupils how mathematics can be applied across a vast range of careers.

Students in Schools

Students in Schools enables students to volunteer to work alongside teachers in local schools. The programme's aim is to raise the aspirations of school pupils and encourage them to continue in higher education.

Reading Scholars

Departmental staff and students are involved in supporting the Mathematics strand of the Reading Scholars Programme at the University. The Programme is designed to give year 12 students a taste of University life via a number of organised visits throughout the academic year.

MathsSquad!

The MathsSquad! visits local schools in Berkshire and surrounding area to deliver mathematical outreach events. The Squad! predominantly comprises undergraduate and postgraduate students from the University who are passionate about delivering mathematical outreach activities, supported by academic staff and members of the UK Recruitment and Outreach Team.
