Institutional login
The institutional login allows you to use your University username and password to access protected e-resources such as databases, e-journals and e-books.
This system has been adopted by our suppliers to allow them fine control of access to their services. However it has been implemented in a variety of ways so you may need to look for a number of different names to know when to use it.
Use your University username with email suffix (e.g. ab123456@student.reading.ac.uk) and password to access online resources where you see one of the following options:
- Institutional login
- UK Federation login
- Shibboleth login
How do I access a resource using the Institutional login?
When you try to access a resource using the Institutional login you will be taken to another web page. This is known as the WAYF - as it effectively asks Where Are You From?
Simply type "Reading" into the search box or select "University of Reading" from the list of institutions and click on the Select button.
![](/library/-/media/project/functions/library/images/screenshots/wayflist.jpg?la=en&hash=0D0B3A409AC84FE87E07A715881FCBA2)
You will then be directed to our login page. Just login with your University username with email suffix (e.g. ab123456@student.reading.ac.uk) and password.
