The School of the Built Environment is pleased to announce the introduction of a PhD scholarship for self-funding applicants who meet the eligibility and assessment criteria and are starting their PhD from January 2025.

What is available?

If your application is successful, you will receive a one-off scholarship of £2,500 in your first year of study.

Eligibility

We welcome both home and international applicants. You can enrol full time, part time, and/or by distance learning.

To be eligible, you must be:
  • in possession of a formal PhD offer of admission from the University of Reading, including meeting the language requirements specified by the School upon entry
  • self-funded.

How to apply

Before applying, please read our guidance on how to apply for a PhD and the entry requirements.

You can apply via our online admissions portal for admission to a PhD in one of the following areas:
  • Architecture
  • Construction Management
  • Energy and Environmental Engineering

For your application to be considered, please quote “School of the Built Environment PhD Scholarship” in the 'Scholarships applied for' box that appears in the funding section of your online application.

Application deadline

There is no formal deadline. Scholarship applications will be considered and assessed throughout the year by the School of the Built Environment PhD scholarship panel.

Outcome

Applications are assessed on the overall quality of the proposed research. If successful, you will be notified via a formal scholarship letter.

Please note, you will receive this notification separately from any offer of admission, and your scholarship outcome will be subject to standard checks for eligibility and other criteria.
