Women's History Month takes place every March across the UK and the world.

Over the next four weeks, we will recognise and celebrate the contributions of women throughout history.

Join our staff, students and local community in a programme of events.

History Month theme

Every year, Women's History Month has a different theme. The theme for 2025 is Moving Forward Together! Women Educating and Inspiring. Generations.

This theme celebrates the collective strength, equality, and influence of women who have dedicated their lives to education, mentorship, and leadership, shaping the minds and futures of all generations.

Women@Reading Network

We champion issues of gender equality across the University and raise awareness of the concerns and issues that affect women. We also organise events and collaborate with other Diversity and equality networks.

We facilitate a monthly Women’s Health Café. These friendly and informal sessions offer a space for people to come together, share stories, discuss issues facing women, and support one another.

The annual Edith Lecture Morley

The Edith Morley Lecture is held annually in memory of Edith Morley, believed to be the first woman to be awarded the title of professor at an English university.

Professor Morley, appointed a professor of English at Reading in 1908, was dedicated to her subject, her students, and her cause. She believed women should have an equal place in academia and society and was an inspiring and motivating force for the young people around her.

Over 100 years on, we are pleased to celebrate this extraordinary part of our heritage to inspire young women today to achieve great things.
