School of Politics, Economics and International Relations
The PhD programme in Economics is an established ESRC-accredited programme that develops a critical understanding of the core fields within economics, whilst focusing on a chosen area of specialisation such as Development Studies. Many academics within the department research in the field of development economics, including on a variety of issues that are particularly important in developing countries such as inequality, gender, violence against women, industrialisation and growth, formation of risk preferences, child health and subjective well-being. Graduates from the department have taken on a wide range of roles - as senior executives and managers, economists, and as policy makers and academics - working for leading international universities, governments and across the public and private sectors.
