Our BSc Architecture degree, designed in collaboration with industry partners, prepares you for the architectural profession of tomorrow.
As architects, it's important that we take responsibility for the impact our buildings and spaces can have on the communities for which we design. At Reading, we recognise the changing context of architecture; our focus extends beyond the innovation of the physical form to the innovation of its use and the possibilities a new structure or space can provide a community to engage, think and behave differently.
Our teaching and learning facilities include a remodelled historic building with dedicated studio space available to use seven days a week. As well as valuing traditional drawing and visualisation, we place a strong emphasis on digital technologies, and you will have access to a purpose-built, 3D immersive digital design environment.
The University of Reading has strong research and industry links, and our team combines vast professional experience with cutting-edge academic research to give you the best of all worlds.
Leading architectural practices and major construction companies work with us to support their own workforce development – meaning that you will often be learning alongside and networking with potential employers and mentors. You will also have the opportunity to enhance your studies by working on live projects with these industry partners, and attend field trips in the UK and abroad.
Our End of Year Show provides an opportunity for you to showcase your project and design work to industry. This annual event offers excellent networking opportunities to assist with securing work experience, placements or jobs after graduation.
Professional accreditation
Your first degree is Part 1 of your journey to becoming an architect. The Architects Registration Board (ARB) has prescribed our BSc (Hons) Architecture degree under the Architects Act 1997. One of the requirements for gaining a professional architecture qualification is to study on a prescribed course.
Our degree is also validated by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). This is formal recognition from RIBA that our degree achieves the standards needed to prepare students for the professional practice of architecture.
Scholarships
As part of the cohort joining our BSc Architecture course in 2025, you may have the opportunity to secure an annual £1,000 scholarship for each of the three years of the undergraduate degree (subject to conditions).
Careers
Following graduation, you'll be well placed to work as an architectural assistant and, after further training, as an architect. You could also work, or pursue further study, in urban design, interior design, project management, journalism, planning and estate management.
Alternatively, you could apply the transferable knowledge and skills you've acquired to pursue a career in a variety of other sectors.
