New University steering group to shape community engagement
08 August 2023
A new Community Engagement Steering Group is being established by the University of Reading to help improve the way the University works with the local community.
The University is seeking two members of the local community to join the Steering Group, alongside University of Reading and Reading Students’ Union members of staff.
Chaired by the University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Robert Van de Noort, the Steering Group will meet three times across the academic year and provide strategic oversight of community engagement activity at the University. This includes:
-
Guiding the delivery and coordination of the strategic principle of Engaged University.
-
Developing a series of time limited workstreams in response to feedback on priorities for enhancing community engagement, aligned to the University’s charitable objectives.
-
Overseeing the delivery, progress and impact of the University’s community engagement against the workstreams.
-
Monitoring the delivery, progress and impact of the Community Engagement Action Plan.
-
Monitoring the communication, promotion and visibility of the University’s community engagement.
Professor Van de Noort said: “I strongly encourage members of our local community to join the newly created Community Engagement Steering Group. These community representatives will help us ensure a better balance of perspectives and by working in partnership at this strategic level, we will actively listen to the voices of our community and improve outcomes for all.”
Expressions of interest
Those interested in joining the Steering Group are being invited to submit their expressions of interest by Wednesday 6 September. This can be done by filling out a form, where more information is available about the dates for future in-person Steering Group meetings.
No previous knowledge or experience of being part of a Steering Group or working with the University is required. However, strong local connections, a good knowledge of the area and the issues being faced and a passion for improving community engagement with the University is what the University is looking for from the two community members.
Travel expenses will be paid. Appointments to the Steering Group will last for the 2023-24 academic year.
