Helping children to speak: A BBC News feature on how Covid lockdowns impacted children’s speech followed three children who have been supported by the University’s Speech and Language Therapy Clinic. Allie Biddle (Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences), director of the clinic, was interviewed, explaining why the lockdowns had a negative impact and how the University has been able to support children’s speech development when other services were not available. The piece has featured across multiple BBC outlets, including BBC Online, BBC Radio 4’s The World Tonight, BBC Radio 5Live, BBC Radio Berkshire’s breakfast show (including interviews with parents here and here), and local radio stations, including BBC Radio Merseyside, BBC Radio Jersey, BBC Radio Northampton and BBC Radio Guernsey. Bees emerging earlier: Dr Deepa Senapathi (Agriculture) spoke to BBC World Service Radio about COP28 and research showing climate change is causing bees in Britain to emerge earlier. Also aired on KPCC-FM, Connecticut Public Radio, Nashville Public Radio.
Homo sapien hunters: BBC Radio 4 spoke to Dr Annemieke Milks (Archaeology) about a series of studies that suggest early homo sapien women took the role of hunters, rather than men.
