Nominate a musical student who helps the community
11 March 2021
Reading students who support their community through music could be in the running for a much-deserved award.
Anyone can nominate any second-year University of Reading student for the Ben Pedley Award for outstanding contribution to the community through music, with nominations particularly welcomed from people or community groups outside the University.
Given in memory of Ben Pedley, a Reading chemistry student who died in 2017, the award is open to all students in their second year of undergraduate study at the University of Reading who regularly take part in musical activity in their community.
This could include volunteering time to support community music activities, sharing joy through performance, or helping others to achieve their musical dreams. The winner will be awarded a certificate and monetary prize of £150.
Victoria Ely, artistic director of University of Reading Music, said: "It has been difficult for many musical groups to meet as they would normally, but music is still a lifeline for many people during tough times. Music helps to keep our community bound together, even when we are apart.
"I am honoured to work with such an array of musical talent and dedication among the University's students, and I urge anyone who knows a worthy second-year to nominate them for this award."
Nominations are invited from any member of the University of Reading and local community, including students, colleagues and community members.
Closing date for all nominations is 5pm on Friday 26 March.
