  • to build on your undergraduate studies, deepening your knowledge and understanding of a chosen topic in Philosophy
  • to enable you to discuss research issues with practising researchers, and to make you aware of current research in Philosophy
  • to develop your research skills and prepare you, where appropriate, for research degrees.

  • to have engaged in specialized study of a specific topic in Philosophy and be acquainted with recent research on this topic
  • to have developed research skills, especially the ability to plan and present a fluent and structured oral presentation, explaining material to staff and students who may or may not have extensive familiarity with the topic

Teaching is primarily by means of individual supervision, supplemented by classes according to student interest and staff research activity.

The Support Centres will apply the following penalties for work submitted late:

  • where the piece of work is submitted after the original deadline (or any formally agreed extension to the deadline): 10% of the total marks available for that piece of work will be deducted from the mark for each working day (or part thereof) following the deadline up to a total of five working days;
  • where the piece of work is submitted more than five working days after the original deadline (or any formally agreed extension to the deadline): a mark of zero will be recorded.
