Summary module description:

This module aims to disseminate key learning and impact of the business challenge undertaken by individual participants in module 8, to their peer group and to a wider audience.



In this module students will submit an abstract/paper about the business challenge that they have researched to the Board annual conference. Each student will present their business challenge governance issue, analysis, findings, key learning and organisational impact. Each student will give a presentation followed by Q&A session. Students will benefit from learning how to disseminate their research and findings to their peers and wider audience at the board level. Each student will benefit from exposure to academic writing; presenting and oral communication skills. Students will further benefit from planning for publication, networking and engaging with a wider audience. The conference will offer critical evaluation of each student's findings and research impact both as theory and practice.


Aims:

To articulate and disseminate key learning from the Business Challenge to a wider stakeholder audience.


Assessable learning outcomes:

By the end of the module it is expected that the student will be able to:




  • Write an academic paper clearly and coherently in a style appropriate to purpose and audience

  • Construct coherent arguments and articulate ideas clearly to a range of audiences formally and informally through a variety of techniques

  • Constructively defend research and present it outcomes at the conference

  • Critically analyse and evaluate their findings


Additional outcomes:

To be able to?formulate and synthesise?learning from the Business Challenge, that will be of interest?to?a variety of?stakeholders.?? 



Additionally, 




  • Engage in critical questioning of peer presentations and their?outcomes? 

  • Highlight wider impacts of their business challenge that can benefit other boards and?best practices? 


Outline content:

This module will take place at Greenlands campus, or an appropriate approved and agreed location by Henley Business School, and will be an annual conference. To participate in the conference each student must have offered an abstract and full paper about their business challenge. Each student will give a 15-minute presentation and a further 15 minutes will be allowed for the Q&A session. All students are to attend and participate in the conference by giving their presentations and also by engaging with other students’ presentations. It is intended that the best of these papers be published as abstracts/cases.



Content:



At the Annual Conference each student is required to offer an academic paper and present their business challenge to their peers and wider board level audience.



This module is designed to allow for multiple delivery points and locations.

Private, Public and Third sector boards international governance contexts and at multi-level.


Brief description of teaching and learning methods:

The abstract and paper will be developed with guidance/support of each student's supervisor. Supervisor will provide two meetings to develop the paper. Each student will give a presentation at the annual conference about their business challenge.
