Summary module description:
This module develops the ability to reflect on the relationship between personal beliefs and the habits of interpersonal behaviour. It builds upon some of the psychodynamic models introduced in the Certificate in Coaching, and enables the student to achieve a high level of self-awareness and behavioural flexibilityy. The importance of reflective practice in coaching for behavioural change will be explored including the process, facilitators and defences to self-awareness. The module is divided into two parts and is highly experiential.
Aims:
- To increase the understanding of self, and from this, understanding of the behaviour of others and how this relates to maintaining presence and active listening in coaching.
- To increase the student’s ability to recognise and separate out their own issues from those of the people with whom they are workingcoaching.
- To develop the skills and coaching mindset to facilitate reflection and deepening self-awareness in others
- To explore different modes of reflective practice and how these align with the professional coaching core competencies
Assessable learning outcomes:
- Academic Business Knowledge and Analytical Skills: Programme members will be able to demonstrate appropriate academic knowledge of the key concepts and theories within coaching and behaviour change
- Academic Business Knowledge and Analytical Skills: Programme members will be able to apply relevant knowledge and analytical and critical thinking skills in a way that combines academic rigour with practical relevance
- Critical Reflection: Programme members will be able to identify critically reflective examples from their own practice that evidence their knowledge and understanding of the key concepts and theories within coaching and behaviour change
- Critical Reflection: Programme members will be able to effectively synthesize theory and research with their reflective examples to illustrate their understanding of how theory and research applies to their own practice

- Enhanced ability to engage in reflective practice to develop a coaching mindset
- Enhanced understanding of identity as a coach/behaviour change practitioner and ability to establish and maintain agreements based on this
- Increased confidence in ability and adaptability to coach for behaviour change
- A deep understanding and appreciation of personal beliefs and the impact of these on individual behaviour
- An awareness and understanding of potential derailment beliefs and behaviours, and their impact on the coaching, or other, relationship
- Understanding of ways of using self-awareness and knowledge to enhance coaching interventions with others

Defences, their functions, their dysfunctions, their manifestations
