Summary module description:

This module provides an introduction to Business and Management by exploring the organisation’s environmental context. The module considers the influences on organisations, including its consumers and competitors, an appraisal of stakeholders, and consideration for its local, national and/or international context. It will consider how this operating environment may be analysed and used to direct strategy. It will consider the key approaches to strategy formation and approaches to stakeholder, customer and supplier management. 


Aims:

The module aims to develop students’ understanding of the concepts and principles underpinning strategy. Students will also be able to interpret and apply them within the context of their own organisation. By the end of the module students will be able to: 




  • Evaluate different types of strategy and strategy creation.. 

  • Understand how firms realise strategy in the context of the wider business environment  

  • Appraise stakeholder engagement and management tools and techniques as part of a stakeholder management strategy 

  • Apply stakeholder management techniques to your own organisation.

By the end of the module, it is expected that programme members may be able to demonstrate their ability in the following areas:

  • How to develop and implement organisational strategy and plans considering the wider business environment and the international contexts that the organisation operates in 

  • How to develop and implement approaches to stakeholder, customer andsupplier management and developing engagement.

Outline content:

The module covers the following topics: 




  • Organisational Strategy 

  • Principles of stakeholder, customer and supplier engagement and management 


Brief description of teaching and learning methods:

Teaching and learning takes place through a blended learning approach. The teaching and learning methods comprise a combination of self-study via a range of online materials on the Canvas learning platform, weekly one-hour virtual seminars with a Learning Coach, and face-to-face workshops with Faculty. 



Materials on Canvas include content on-screen, videos, PowerPoint presentations, journal articles, book chapters, practical activities and reflection points. &nbs p;

The assignment includes a 1,500 word individual report and a 1,000 word individual essay

Facilitated learning activities are undertaken during the seminars and workshops, including formative feedback on these activities.
