Summary module description:

This module complements EC204 and will provide foundations for EC318. This module will explore more deeply ordinary least squares (OLS) regression and OLS properties, hypothesis testing, explore departures from standard assumptions and will further develop statistical software skills.

Aims:

To provide a deeper understand of ordinary least squares regression and the assumptions underlying OLS, including derivations.

To further develop statistical software and programming skills.

Assessable learning outcomes:

At the end of the module students should be able to:

  • Derive the OLS estimator and proofs of the OLS assumptions

  • Understand departures form the OLS assumptions and their consequences

  • Understand more deeply hypothesis testing and estimation methods.

  • Undertake estimation tasks using computer software.

Additional outcomes:

Greater familiarity with econometric software and programming.
