Aims:
To familiarize students with theory and research on core topics in social psychology.

Assessable learning outcomes:
By the end of the module the student will be able to:

  • Show knowledge of theory and research in social psychology, in the form of multiple-choice test answers and continuous online assessment assignments.

Additional outcomes:

Outline content:
Topics in social psychology might include attitudes, social perception, stereotypes and categorization, group processes, inter-group relations, social influence, aggression and prosocial behaviour.

Brief description of teaching and learning methods:
(a) Lectures on social psychology.
(b) Online discussion forum following lectures.
(c) Recommended reading in social psychology.
(d) Online assessment of students' understanding of material covered in lectures, to provide feedback on level of understanding and help students prepare for the end-of-term test.

This module is assessed by coursework (30%) and an end-of-term multiple choice test (70%).
Coursework involves continuous online assessment of students' understanding of the material covered in lectures.

The Support Centres will apply the following penalties for work submitted late:

  • where the piece of work is submitted after the original deadline (or any formally agreed extension to the deadline): 10% of the total marks available for that piece of work will be deducted from the mark for each working day (or part thereof) following the deadline up to a total of five working days;
  • where the piece of work is submitted more than five working days after the original deadline (or any formally agreed extension to the deadline): a mark of zero will be recorded.
