Summary module description:

This module will provide students with the skills and understanding necessary to perform well at Part 2 and beyond.  It will introduce the academic expectations associated with more advanced study, identify common challenges and suggest strategies for overcoming them, present key sources of support, and facilitate the development of advanced study skills.  It will also enhance students’ understanding of how the skills they will develop in Parts 2 and 3 will transfer into the world of work and help them to reflect on their career goals and identify what steps they might take at this stage in order to achieve those goals.

Aims:

This module aims to familiarise students with the academic expectations and challenges they will face as they progress into the parts of their degree which count towards their final classification and to equip them with the skills and understandings required to perform strongly.  It also aims to improve students’ understanding of the workplace relevance of their studies and to plan concrete steps they might take to enhance their employability.

Brief description of teaching and learning methods:

A series of sessions will be held early in the Autumn term.  Individual reflection and group tasks and discussions will develop and consolidate understanding.
