Summary module description:
The Management Challenge offers the opportunity for individuals to choose a business based problem, issue or dilemma in order to focus on key elements of the programme, drawing on and building to a deeper level learning and development from the programme in order to apply it to a practical context. Learners normally choose a problem in their own organisation or industry as a vehicle for the Management Challenge Process. In undertaking the Management Challenge learners are also required to develop and apply a research process and research techniques that are appropriate to the problem, issue or dilemma chosen. The module is supported by The Manager Investigator which is outlined in a separate module descriptor.

Aims:

Assessable learning outcomes:
The learning outcomes are that there is evidence of:

£ Masterliness in process relation to defining and investigating an organizational or management challenge, dilemma, issue or problem
£ Analysis of the problem or issue through a critical assessment of current thinking and theoretical and mental models drawn from both elements of the programme and from specific and relevant wider reading are applied in order to develop reflective and more insightful knowledge understanding of the problem or issue.
£ Ability to design an appropriate approach to the investigation and a methodology that facilitates the collection, analysis and application data robustly and appropriately.
£ A clear exposition of the process and analysis in order to develop logical, grounded and practicable recommendations from their study.
£ Reflection on the theoretical, practical and personal learning from conducting the Management Challenge

Outline content:
There is no content specifically to support the Management Challenge but it is supported by the Manager as Investigator module

Brief description of teaching and learning methods:
The Management Challenge is supported by The Manager as Investigator Module which is described in a separate specification. Support is through workshops, self study material, including a builder which acts as a bridge between the Management Challenge and the Manager as Investigator and on-line support in order to introduce the Management Challenge. There is a Management Challenge Guide outlining the requirements for the Management Challenge and this is introduced as part of the workshops.

Allocation of a subject based supervisor to support individual learner£s is given once the a proposal is submitted.

Formative assessment methods:
The supervision process allows formative assessment through the development of the Management Challenge project.

Penalties for late submission:

These are in accordance with the mode of study arrangements laid out in the programme guide.

Assessment requirements for a pass:
The minimum pass mark for the Management Challenge is 50%

Reassessment arrangements:
Reassessment is normally offered if there has been no other fails at the stage at which the Management Challenge sits.
