Summary module description:
This is the first module of three, making up the Post-Graduate Diploma level of the programme. This module develops some of the themes begun in the Certificate in Coaching, and explores some of the more difficult situations a coach can face. This includes interpersonal issues, coaching topics, and contextual issues, such as cross-cultural coaching, coaching and behavioural change in the international arena and the business of coaching itself.
The module runs over 3 months, consisting of two workshops, of three and two days, and inter-workshop activity including peer coaching and learning group work. Work with external coachees, with real coaching issues, will form part of the experience of this module.
Aims:
- To equip students with knowledge, understanding, judgement and skills to recognise difficult or challenging coaching and behavioural change situations, and handle them effectively
- To ensure students are able to manage their own coaching business or practice in an ethical way, with appropriate boundaries and contracting practices
- To broaden students’ horizons in the field to enable them to engage with more challenging assignments, with individuals and organisations
Assessable learning outcomes:
- One 5000 word reflective piece
- Observed skill in working in the topic areas covered by the module
- Feedback from external coachee, tutors, learning
Additional outcomes:
- Increased confidence in working with groups, both as coach, and also as a member of a group
- Increased awareness of group dynamics and the effects of a system on the behaviour of individuals
- Development of a wider range of flexibility and options for working within organizations
- Development of a wider range of methods
