Summary module description:

This module is the first in a series of three to support students personal development.  



The module encourages students to develop self-awareness, and reflect on their core values and drivers. Students will reflect upon their own learning, performance and achievement, and plan for their personal, educational and career development. 


Aims:

In this module, students will develop a better understanding of themselves and their interactions with others.  



 



The module aims to: 




  • Develop self-awareness in relations to self and others 

  • Encourage students to better understand their own personal values and beliefs 

  • Support students to reflect on their own performance and plan for ongoing personal development 

  • Give an understanding of learning styles and apply to self and others 


Assessable learning outcomes:

By the end of the module, it is expected that programme members may be able to demonstrate their ability in the following areas: 



To know and understand: 




  • Demonstrate self-awareness as an independent, reflective and self-critical learner in a wide range of learning contexts and be able to apply learning to new situations 

  • Recognise different learning styles and apply to self and others  

  • Understand the nature and process of personal development and recognise the value of personal development for themselves and organisations 

  • Know how to set achievable goals and monitor progress towards these

  • Reflect on own performance, identifying and acting on learning and development needs  

  • Create Personal Development Plan and demonstrate ongoing commitment to personal development

Outline content:

The module covers the following topics: 




  • Self-awareness in relation to self and others 

  • Personal Development Planning and goal setting for self 

  • Learning styles 


Brief description of teaching and learning methods:

Teaching and learning takes place through a blended learning approach. The teaching and learning methods comprise a combination of self-study via a range of online materials on the Canvas learning platform, weekly one-hour virtual seminars with a Learning Coach, and face-to-face workshops with Faculty. 



Materials on Canvas include content on-screen, videos, PowerPoint presentations, journal articles, book chapters, practical activities and reflection points. &nbs p;

Summative assessment- Coursework and in-class tests:

One 1,500 word individual assignment, to be submitted as per the submission schedule for the cohort. 



One 500 word individual personal development plan, to be submitted as per the submission schedule for the cohort.  


Formative assessment methods:

Facilitated learning activities are undertaken during the seminars and workshops, including formative feedback on these activities.  


Penalties for late submission:

Assessment requirements for a pass:

40% 


Reassessment arrangements:

Reassessment by 100% assignment, capped at 40%.
