Summary module description:
This module is an introduction to Organisational Behaviour in the contemporary workplace. It explores the challenges, tensions and issues involved in the relationship between individuals, groups and organisations to better understand behaviour at work and managerial processes.
A wide range of topics relevant to effective organisations are covered, including:?Team and group working, organisational culture, motivation and engagement, team work and organisational effectiveness and performance. This module also explores what equality, diversity and inclusion are, why they are important and why organisations should commit to making them happen.
Aims:
The module aims to develop the students’ understanding of the concepts and principles from organisational behaviour (OB) to develop knowledge, insights and skills relevant to the management of people in organisations.

By the end of the module, it is expected that programme members may be able to demonstrate their ability in the following areas:
To know and understand:
- Understand types of organisational culture and how these are created.
- Explain the benefits and challenges of teamworking including cross functional working
- Understand the value of diversity and inclusion in organisational performance

To know and understand:
- Main theories of Organisational Behaviour and how they can be used to understand organisational issues
- Explain the theories and mechanisms for creating employee motivation and engagement whilst recognising individual and cultural differences.

The module covers the following topics:
- Organisational Culture
- Organisational Structure
- Motivation, Engagement and Commitment
- Working in Teams and Groups including Cross functional working
- Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
Global context:
Global environment, case studies and examples drawn from around the world.
Brief description of teaching and learning methods:
Teaching and learning takes place through a blended learning approach. The teaching and learning methods comprise a combination of self-study via a range of online materials on the Canvas learning platform, weekly one-hour virtual seminars with a Learning Coach, and face-to-face workshops with Faculty.
Materials on Canvas include content on-screen, videos, PowerPoint presentations, journal articles, book chapters, practical activities and reflection points. &nbs p;

Summative assessment- Examinations:

Summative assessment- Coursework and in-class tests:
One individual presentation, to be submitted as per the submission schedule for the cohort (30% of overall mark)
One 1,500 word individual assignment, to be submitted as per the submission schedule for the cohort (70% of overall mark).
Formative assessment methods:
Facilitated learning activities are undertaken during the seminars and workshops, including formative feedback on these activities.
