Summary module description:

This module provides opportunities for students who wish to study abroad at a university with which the University of Reading has an exchange agreement. The student first applies to a host university abroad, and selects modules offered by the host university. These modules are equivalent to 120 credits from the University of Reading.  


Aims:

The module aims to give students experience of concepts and approaches in a different national tradition of scholarship, and to help students to learn different cultures. This may involve not only Computer Science, but also other disciplines related to or relevant to the Computer Science subject. 

This module involves spending a year (nine to twelve months) at a university abroad which has an exchange agreement with the University of Reading. Students follow modules at the host university in Computer Science and/or related subjects. The selected modules are equivalent to 120 credits of modules in the University of Reading. Examination requirements are those of the host institution. 


Assessable learning outcomes:

By the end of the module, it is expected that the student will be able to successfully pass oral and/or written examinations according to the requirements of the host university.

Outline content:

The module is based on exchange programmes with universities in other countries. It consists of an approved number of credits from a host university amounting to the equivalent of 120 credits from the University of Reading. Support and advice about applying for places can be obtained from the Study Abroad office in the University of Reading.

Please note that assessment will be in-line with the module requirement of the institution where the student is based for the Study Abroad period. This could include written, oral or practical exams, fieldwork, project work etc.

Penalties for late submission:

Penalties for late submission on this module are in accordance with the host institution policy.


Assessment requirements for a pass:

To pass the module, students must achieve an overall average of 40%.



Successful completion of the study abroad year does not contribute to the student’s final degree classification.

This will vary for each student depending on the final choice of courses, on the institution and on the country. Advice can be obtained from the Study Abroad coordinator.
