Summary module description:
This module will enable you to complete a study abroad semester during the spring term in a university which is one of our University-wide Exchange Partners. You’ll follow an equivalent credit of modules at the host institution, and the marks for work assessed abroad will contribute to your final classification. Note that a place on one of these schemes cannot be guaranteed.
Aims:

Each study abroad student can take up to three Study Abroad modules to the equivalent of 60 credits in total, to complete the requirements for their degree programme at Reading. The marks for these courses are substituted for course credits at Part 3 in Reading.

Students must also liaise with their programme director in the first instance and the School Study Abroad Coordinator.
The deadline to submit your application (in particular for destinations outside of Europe) is usually at the end of January in Part 1.

Additional outcomes:
By the end of the module it is expected that the student will have studied a number of courses in a department in their chosen host university. The module also aims to encourage students to be more self-reliant and to give them an opportunity to broaden their education through travelling and studying abroad and to experience the life and culture of another country, enhancing their employability prospects.
Outline content:
Students will choose one from a range of partner universities; they will normally study for one semester but might be able to study for one term if this is appropriate and provided by the host university.

Studying abroad as part of your degree is an exciting and stimulating way of equipping you with the skills and experiences for living and working in a globalised world.

40% overall.
Students will bring the marks back with them from their host university. After translation in accordance with the guidelines stipulated by the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS), the marks will be the basis for the assessment equivalent to 20 credits, which would have been taken in the Autumn term at Reading, and incorporated into their record.
Reassessment arrangements:
Students who achieve an overall threshold performance may not be able to re-sit this module. Where a re-sit is permitted, work of equivalent value will be set and marked by the University of Reading and must be submitted by 1 September.
