This module aims to enable students to study during the spring term in a university in the United States, Canada, Australia, Europe or Japan.

This module aims to enable students to study during the spring term in a university in the United States, Canada, Australia, Europe or Japan.

These will be in accordance with the host institution.
Additional outcomes:
By the end of the module it is expected that the student will have studied a number of courses in another department in their chosen host university. The module also aims to encourage students to be more self-reliant and to give them an opportunity to broaden their education through travelling and studying abroad and to experience the life and culture of another country.
Outline content:
Students will choose one from a range of partner universities; they will normally study for one semester but might be able to study for one term if this is appropriate and provided by the host university.

Summative assessment- Coursework and in-class tests:
Equivalent to 200 hours in accordance with the standard arrangements in the host university.
Coursework: In accordance with the standard arrangements in the host university.
Examinations: In accordance with the standard arrangements in the host university.
Students will bring the marks back with them from their host university. After translation in accordance with the agreed formula the marks will be the basis for the assessment of one or two courses (depending on whether they go for one semester or one term) which would have been taken in the term in in question at Reading and incorporated into their record.

Penalties for late submission:
The Support Centres will apply the following penalties for work submitted late:
- where the piece of work is submitted after the original deadline (or any formally agreed extension to the deadline): 10% of the total marks available for that piece of work will be deducted from the mark for each working day (or part thereof) following the deadline up to a total of five working days;
- where the piece of work is submitted more than five working days after the original deadline (or any formally agreed extension to the deadline): a mark of zero will be recorded.
You are strongly advised to ensure that coursework is submitted by the relevant deadline. You should note that it is advisable to submit work in an unfinished state rather than to fail to submit any work.
Assessment requirements for a pass:
40% overall.
Reassessment arrangements:
If a student fails to pass the year at the first attempt there is an opportunity to be re-assessed on one further occasion at the next opportunity in those modules achieving a mark of less than 40%. In this module candidates will be reassessed by coursework only and should resubmit by 1st August in consultation with the module convenor (email directly to politics@reading.ac.uk AND submit via Turnitin on Blackboard).
