Summary module description:

This module will develop students’ understanding of their own academic, professional and personal development. It will promote the use of reflective practice as a tool to evaluate and improve student’s performance academically, as well as enabling them to engage with the critical thinking skills in order to develop informed perspectives on the factors that support and limit the education of a population. The module will explore a wide range of topics which support the development of knowledge and understanding of personal and professional growth. Opportunities for students to visit and experience a range of settings where learning takes place (eg museums, schools, Early Years settings) are a key aspect of the module, enabling students to make links between their own learning and the world of work.   At the end of this module students will have key skills to demonstrate in depth knowledge of and insight into their own development, academically and professionally, in order to support a transition into yr 2, particularly with regard to the work placement.

Aims:
£ To familiarise students with the concept of Reflective Practice as a tool to support personal and professional development,
£ To critically analyse different models of Reflective Practice
£ To explore and develop understanding the concept of professionalism
£ To develop understanding of students£ own career development within a professional context
£ To develop confidence with the necessary skills to support academic study

£ Use models of reflection in order to critically evaluate and analyse personal, professional and academic development
£ Critically analyse the concept of professionalism as a concept and in relation to student£s own career trajectory
£ Demonstrate an understanding of own career trajectory and professional development
£ Evaluate own academic progress and demonstrate a proactive stance towards improvement

Students will maintain a Professional Development Portfolio which will enable tracking and assessing of progress towards the learning outcomes.

Formative assessment methods:
There will be regular opportunities for formative assessment and feedback.

Penalties for late submission:

The Support Centres will apply the following penalties for work submitted late:

• where the piece of work is submitted after the original deadline (or any formally agreed extension to the deadline): 10% of the total marks available for that piece of work will be deducted from the mark for each working day (or part thereof) following the deadline up to a total of five working days;
• where the piece of work is submitted more than five working days after the original deadline (or any formally agreed extension to the deadline): a mark of zero will be recorded.
