Over recent years, organisations have become increasingly aware that successful supply chain management is pivotal to their gaining competitive advantage and reducing costs. You'll learn about the fundamental principles of integrated Supply Chain Management and their contribution to corporate strategy; and you'll find out how a range of methods, techniques, practices and strategies are being used in the integrated management of supply chains.
Aims:
Over recent years organisations have become increasingly aware that successful Supply Chain Management is pivotal to their gaining competitive advantage and reducing costs. The broad aim of this module is to provide an introduction to the concept of integrated Supply Chain Management and an understanding of the methods, techniques, practices and strategies involved in the integrated management of supply chains.
Assessable learning outcomes:
- An understanding of the fundamental principles of integrated supply chain management and the contribution of supply chain management to corporate strategy
- An understanding of the theories related to the management of supply chain operations
- An appreciation of the importance and practice of supply chain management within the food supply chain (farm, food processing and manufacturing, retail and final consumer)
- An appreciation of the wider societal implications of supply chain management including global, social and ethical supply chain management
- Insights into the latest issues and trends within Supply Chain Management including the implications of the growing importance of online retail.

Brief description of teaching and learning methods:
This is a lecture based module with additional learning through required reading and research for a group presentation on topical issues in supply chain management and a linked essay assignment.

Summative assessment- Examinations:
Atwo hour examination paper – answer two from five questions.
Summative assessment- Coursework and in-class tests:
A team presentation on a supply chain management case study.

Penalties for late submission:
The Support Centres will apply the following penalties for work submitted late:
- where the piece of work is submitted after the original deadline (or any formally agreed extension to the deadline): 10% of the total marks available for that piece of work will be deducted from the mark for each working day (or part thereof) following the deadline up to a total of five working days;
- where the piece of work is submitted more than five working days after the original deadline (or any formally agreed extension to the deadline): a mark of zero will be recorded.
You are strongly advised to ensure that coursework is submitted by the relevant deadline. You should note that it is advisable to submit work in an unfinished state rather than to fail to submit any work.
Assessment requirements for a pass:
A mark of 40% overall.
Reassessment arrangements:
By re-examination in August/September.
