PY2SD2 Social & Differential Psychology 2


Aims:

To familiarise students with theory and research on core topics in social and differential psychology. 


Assessable learning outcomes:

By the end of the module the student will be able to:




  • Describe key areas of research in social psychology and individual differences

  • Critically evaluate some pieces of relevant research and techniques discussed in lectures

  • Demonstrate a broad understanding of topics within social psychology and individual differences


Additional outcomes:

Outline content:

Topics include: self-regulation and motivation; aggression; pro-social behaviour;; intelligence; emotional intelligence and emotion regulation. Individual differences within a number of these domains will also be addressed.


Brief description of teaching and learning methods:

(a) Lectures on social psychology and individual differences.



(b) Online discussion forum following lectures.



(c) Recommended reading in social psychology and individual differences.



(d) Online assessment of students' understanding of material covered in lectures, to provide feedback on level of understanding and help students prepare for the Summer exam.

Summative assessment- Examinations:

The 1-hour Summer exam is comprised of multiple choice questions (70%).


Summative assessment- Coursework and in-class tests:

This module is assessed by coursework (30%) and a multiple choice exam sat in summer term (70%). 

Coursework involves continuous online assessment of students' understanding of the material covered in lectures.


Formative assessment methods:

Penalties for late submission:

The Module Convenor will apply the following penalties for work submitted late:

  • where the piece of work is submitted after the original deadline (or any formally agreed extension to the deadline): 10% of the total marks available for that piece of work will be deducted from the mark for each working day[1] (or part thereof) following the deadline up to a total of five working days;
  • where the piece of work is submitted more than five working days after the original deadline (or any formally agreed extension to the deadline): a mark of zero will be recorded.

A mark of 40% overall
