- to build on your undergraduate studies, deepening your knowledge and understanding of a chosen topic in Philosophy
- to enable you to discuss research issues with practising researchers, and to make you aware of current research in Philosophy
- to develop your research skills and prepare you, where appropriate, for research degrees.

- to have developed research skills, especially the ability to plan and present a fluent and structured oral presentation, explaining material to staff and students who may or may not have extensive familiarity with the topic
