Summary module description:

This course investigates interesting and key aspects of the theory of linear water waves.


Aims:

To investigate and understand a variety of phenomena displayed by water waves.


Assessable learning outcomes:

By the end of the module, students are expected to be able to:



-Recognise and solve problems concerning a variety of water wave phenomena.



This module will be assessed to a greater depth than the excluded module MA3WW.

Outline content:

This course investigates interesting and key aspects of the theory of linear water waves, including ripples, shallow water theory, waves in fluid of intermediate depth, and deep water waves.

Lectures supported by problem sheets and lecture-based tutorials.

Penalties for late submission:

The Module Convenor will apply the following penalties for work submitted late:

  • where the piece of work is submitted after the original deadline (or any formally agreed extension to the deadline): 10% of the total marks available for that piece of work will be deducted from the mark for each working day[1] (or part thereof) following the deadline up to a total of five working days;
  • where the piece of work is submitted more than five working days after the original deadline (or any formally agreed extension to the deadline): a mark of zero will be recorded.

Assessment requirements for a pass:

A mark of 50% overall.
