Summary module description:

This module provides an introduction to core topics and methods in microeconometrics, while also enabling students to develop their data handling skills using the statistical package Stata.


Aims:

This module provides an introduction to core topics and methods in microeconometrics, while also enabling students to develop their data handling skills using the statistical package Stata.


Assessable learning outcomes:

By the end of the module students should be able to:




  1. understand the different types of microeconometric data and the methods available to analyse these;

  2. analyse different types of microeconometric data using empirical techniques and interpret the results of such analyses;

  3. critically assess the econometric methods used in empirical papers.


Additional outcomes:

Students will develop their data analysis skills using the statistical package Stata.


Outline content:

Topics to be covered will include: cross section and panel data; discrete choice modelling.


Brief description of teaching and learning methods:

There will be a mix of lectures and computer classes for each topic.

There is no final examination.


Summative assessment- Coursework and in-class tests:

There will be one set exercise and one in-class test.

There will be exercises for each topic.

Assessment requirements for a pass:

A minimum overall mark of 50%.


Reassessment arrangements:

Re-examination for all modules takes place in August/September of the same year. Re-assessment for this module will involve submission of an alternative coursework assignment.
