Summary module description:

Explore the theory and practice of human motivation, self-control, and self-regulation, and examine these concepts in relation to consumer behaviour in a variety of settings. Drawing on perspectives from a variety of fields including psychology, marketing, and consumer research, identify practical ways in which motivation may be enhanced.


Aims:

To enable students to study topics relating to human motivation, and critically evaluate methods and applications of motivation theory in consumer marketing research.


Assessable learning outcomes:

At the end of this course students will:




  1. Understand and critically evaluate theories and models of human motivation

  2. Be equipped to create strategies to improve motivation in a variety of practical settings.

Outline content:

Sessions will be a mixture of lectures and interactive discussions. Key issues in motivation will be analysed in relation to consumer behaviour, drawing on a range of perspectives in psychology, marketing and consumer research.

The module will be assessed by written coursework and a team case study oral presentation. 


Formative assessment methods:

Class exercises and discussions will provide the basis for formative assessment.
