This MRes dissertation module is intended to build on your undergraduate studies, deepening your knowledge and understanding of a chosen topic in Philosophy, enabling you to discuss research issues with practising researchers, making you aware of current research in Philosophy, and developing your research skills to prepare you, where appropriate, for research degrees.

This MRes dissertation module is intended to build on your undergraduate studies, deepening your knowledge and understanding of a chosen topic in Philosophy, enabling you to discuss research issues with practising researchers, making you aware of current research in Philosophy, and developing your research skills to prepare you, where appropriate, for research degrees.
Assessable learning outcomes:
By the end of the module, you will have engaged in specialized study of a specific topic in Philosophy and be acquainted with recent research on this topic. You will be able to plan and produce a substantial and extended piece of written work under supervision, as a potential foundation for further study.

Brief description of teaching and learning methods:
Teaching is primarily by means of individual supervision, supplemented by classes according to student interest and staff research activity.
Students are entitled to one brief introductory supervision and four substantial supervisions for the dissertation. It is the student's responsibility to arrange the supervisions and to spread them fairly evenly throughout the term.

A dissertation of not more than 20,000 words (100 credits).
