Summary module description:

This module aims to enable students to study during the spring term in a university which is one of our University-wide Exchange Partners.

The marks for work assessed abroad will contribute to the student's finals classification.

A place on one of these schemes is not guaranteed.

Aims:

This module aims to enable students to study for a term or semester in an institution with which the University has a valid Study Abroad agreement.  For more information visit: http://www.reading.ac.uk/studyabroad/outgoingstudents/wherecanistudy/vso-outgoinguniversitywidepartners.aspx

Each study abroad student can take up to three Study Abroad modules, each of 20 credits, equivalent to 60 credits in total, to complete the requirements for their degree programme at Reading. The marks for these courses are substituted for course credits at Part 2 in Reading.

Students must also liaise with their programme director in the first instance and the School Study Abroad Coordinator.

The deadline to submit your application (in particular for destinations outside of Europe) is usually at the end of January in Part 1.

These will be in accordance with the host institution. 

Additional outcomes:

By the end of the module it is expected that the student will have studied a number of courses in a department in their chosen host university. The module also aims to encourage students to be more self-reliant and to give them an opportunity to broaden their education through travelling and studying abroad and to experience the life and culture of another country, enhancing their employability prospects.

Outline content:

Students will choose one from a range of partner universities; they will normally study for one semester but might be able to study for one term if this is appropriate and provided by the host university.

Studying abroad as part of your degree is an exciting and stimulating way of equipping you with the skills and experiences for living and working in a globalised world.

Summative assessment- Coursework and in-class tests:

Contact hours: Equivalent to 300 hours in accordance with the standard arrangements in the host university.

Students may have some outstanding assessment elements from modules at Reading to complete during their time at their host institution.

Penalties for late submission:

Assessment requirements for a pass:

40% overall.

Students will bring the marks back with them from their host university. After translation in accordance with the guidelines stipulated by the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS), the marks will be the basis for the assessment equivalent to 30 credits per module (to a total of 60 credits), which would have been taken in the Spring term at Reading, and incorporated into their record.

Reassessment arrangements:

Students who achieve an overall threshold performance may not be able to re-sit this module. Where a re-sit is permitted, work of equivalent value will be set and marked by the University of Reading and must be submitted by 1 September.
