Summary module description:
This module is delivered at the University of Reading in the UK.
Aims:
This module aims to allow students to engage in independent study in accounting, including its finance and management links, with direction from an academic supervisor.
Assessable learning outcomes:
By the end of the module it is expected that students will be able to
1. Plan the execution of a larger-scale piece of independent work
2. Source relevant qualitative and quantitative information
3. Evidence knowledge, understanding, analysis and application of relevant academic, professional and corporate information
4. Synthesise such information in a structured form e.g. a report
Additional outcomes:
The self-directed nature of study for this module will encourage skills with respect to self-managed learning, information sourcing and evaluation, and time management.
Outline content:
Projects can be based on any areas in accounting and may link with aspects of management and/ or finance. They may take a variety of forms, but will usually involve some integration of qualitative and quantitative analysis.
Brief description of teaching and learning methods:
An initial meeting with the Project supervisor will establish the nature of the Project, and in general the academic, profession and corporate resources needed to support the Project, as well as the key steps to ensure successful completion. A follow-up meeting in the summer term will review progress and agree further steps. Opportunities for feedback before submission will be agreed between the supervisor and the student.

A minimum mark of 40%
