This scheme is aimed at supporting applicants who want to undertake PhD research on a part-time basis.

What support is provided by the University?

The University will provide funding to cover the cost of tuition fees for part-time PhD study at the UK/Republic of Ireland rate for six years. Successful applicants will be supported by a supervisory team with expertise relevant to the research and have access to a suite of researcher development training.

What are the eligibility criteria?

Candidates:

  • Must have an offer of admission onto a PhD programme for part-time study commencing in September 2025.
  • Must not be a current PhD student at the University of Reading.

When do awards start and what is the deadline?

Applications are invited by the deadline of 11th May 2025.  Awards will start in September 2025.

How to apply

In order to apply for an award, candidates should:

  1. Apply online for a place of admission (and have a PhD place confirmed) at the University by the deadlines given above.
  2. Complete and submit the application form, which requires a short statement of 300 words maximum outlining the applicant’s motivation for undertaking a PhD at the University of Reading and explaining how the PhD will support their career development.
