Codex Co-ordinating Committee for Europe (23rd Session)
The summary and conclusions of the 23rd Session of the FAO/WHO Coordinating
Committee for Europe are as follows:
Matters for consideration by the Commission:
The Committee:
- agreed to discontinue work on the revision of the Regional Standard for
Mayonnaise and to propose that the Commission should revoke the current Standard
- agreed to nominate the Slovak Republic for appointment as Regional Coordinator
by the 26th Session of the Commission
Other matters of interest to the Commission:
The Committee:
- expressed its views concerning the elements to be considered in the Joint
FAO/WHO Evaluation of the Codex Alimentarius and Other FAO and WHO Work on
Food Standards
- recommended that traceability/product tracing should be applied for the
purposes of food safety and for other legitimate objectives
- proposed some amendments to the Draft Medium-Term Plan 2003-2007
- expressed its appreciation to FAO and WHO for their technical assistance
in the region and supported the strengthening of capacity-building activities,
especially as a follow-up to the Pan-European Conference on Food Safety and
Quality
- reviewed the measures taken by governments to improve consumer participation
