Codex Committee on Meat and Poultry Hygiene (8th Session)
The Committee:
- Agreed to forward the proposed draft General Principles of Meat Hygiene to the 50th Session of the Executive Commission (June 2002) for preliminary adoption;
- Agreed to circulate the proposed draft Code of Practice for Fresh Meat General Principles for comments and to prepare a revised version for circulation, comments and further consideration at its next meeting;
- Requested the Commission to amend the name of the Committee as "Codex Committee on Meat Hygiene" and to revise its Terms of Reference accordingly;
- Requested New Zealand, in cooperation with the Codex Secretariat, to prepare a discussion paper on hygiene provisions for processed meat for potential inclusion in the Code, subject to the approval of 50th Session of the Executive Committee;
- Noted the offer of New Zealand to prepare two discussion papers on the possible addition of Annexes to the proposed draft Code of Practice on principles and guidelines i) for establishing risk-based ante- and post-mortem inspection systems and ii) on systems for microbiological process control for meat.
