Codex Committee on Food Labelling (29th Session)
The Committee:
- Advanced the Draft Sections on beekeeping and additives in livestock production in the Guidelines for the Production, Processing, Labelling and Marketing of Organically Produced Foods and the Proposed Draft Amendment to the adopted Guidelines (Substances for Use in Soil Fertilizing and Conditioning) for final adoption by the 24th Session of the Codex Alimentarius Commission; and agreed to undertake the revision of the section of the Guidelines on Criteria for the development of lists of substances used in organic production;
- Advanced the Draft Definitions for adoption by the 24th Session of the Commission and returned the Proposed Draft Guidelines for the Labelling of Foods obtained through Certain Techniques of Genetic Modification/Genetic Engineering for further comments;
- Agreed to ask for further comments on the Draft Amendment to the Standard for the Labelling of Prepackaged Foods (class name - milk protein);
- Endorsed the labelling provisions in several draft standards for processed fruits and vegetables; fish and fishery products; chocolate and cocoa products; bottled/packaged waters; soups and broths; and vegetable protein products, with some amendments, thereby allowing their adoption by the 24th Session of the Commission;
- Agreed to ask for further comments on the Proposed Draft Amendment to the Guidelines on Nutrition Labelling (list of nutrients), as amended during the session;
- Agreed to ask for further comments on the Proposed Draft Recommendations on Health Claims, as amended during the session;
- Agreed to ask for further comments on the Proposed Draft Amendment to the General Standard for the Labelling of Prepackaged Foods on Quantitative Declaration of Ingredients.
