Do you want to build your awareness of trans matters?
Christian Owens is a transgender speaker who uses his own personal journey of discovery to enlighten and inspire individuals and organisations.
Before starting his public speaking business, GenderSpace, Christian enjoyed a successful 27-year career in the police service and has recently retired from his role as a Detective Sergeant in a busy north west metropolitan police force. Christian’s own personal, lived experiences as a trans man help audiences to understand, empathise and gain a greater understanding of the journey of transition.
Tailored towards the needs of the audience, he provides an insight into what it’s like to be transgender, sharing the highs, lows and even some funny stories. He talks openly and candidly about the social, legal and medical aspects of the journey, educating and raising awareness about the medical care pathway, support that’s required from employers and family members and protection that is provided by certain legislation.
Christian offers a Q&A session, which is the perfect opportunity to explore those burning and sometimes difficult to ask questions. Christian provides a safe space for his audience to learn and explore. The session will allow you to:
- Understand the difference between sexuality and gender identity and how pronouns are used
- Gain insight into the treatment care pathway
- Know the legal rights of trans people within society
- Know what local and University support is available.
This session is designed for anyone who wants to understand, empathise and gain a greater understanding of the journey of transition of Transgender people.
