The Development of Prison Architecture and The Political Economy of Punishment
A study on prison facilities in Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil) by Leandro Ayres Franca and Ana Carolina Mezzalira.
Dr Franca will deliver the talk on behalf of both authors. He looks at how prison design in Brazil has been seized from those responsible (local and state departments) by national level public initiatives and later by private construction companies. It does this to illuminate the relationship between Brazilian prison architecture and the political economy of punishment.
