There are different ways you can get involved in volunteering through RUSU. There are lots of different student led projects including; children and young people, disability and health, community, environment.
RAG
Most of the student fundraising is done through the Raise and Give (RAG) society. Each year they raise money for different local charities. This year, the three charities they are supporting are:- Number 5 Counselling - helps provide counselling for anyone aged 10-25 and their families, who is suffering from a range of psychological and emotional difficulties.
- Footsteps Foundation – improves the quality of life for children and young adults who are affected by neuromotor disorders and neurological conditions such as cerebral palsy.
- Thrive Foundation – supports individuals living with HIV in the London area, to help improve their emotional and physical health and well-being, as they learn to life with the long term condition.
RAG hosts a wide range of events to raise money for these great causes, such as Jailbreak and RAG Week.
For more information about RAG, visit their page.
Societies
There are a number of other societies you can join to help raise money and awareness for different causes. These range from Amnesty International to cancer charities and children’s charities.
You can view all the Volunteering societies band on RUSU's webpage; select the ‘Volunteering’ tab!
JCR
Being part of your halls JCR committee is a very rewarding experience and a fantastic way to give back to the University. The JCR volunteer in a variety of different roles and work to provide a range of opportunities for new students living in halls. They are a vital part of any new student’s life as they help guide them through their first year. They volunteer a lot of hours to meetings, organising and running events as well as helping new students through Welcome Week.
To become a JCR Committee Member you need to put yourself forward for nominations for the following academic year. You will then be voted in by other members of your halls and hold your JCR position for one year.
