What is the Reading Internship Scheme (RIS)?
The Reading Internship Scheme connects University of Reading undergraduate students with eligible organisations through short-term, paid internships. The internship project is decided by you - we welcome all types of internships whether that's social media, data analysis, marketing, research, quantity surveying, project management... the list goes on!!
Internship Timelines:
Employer Applications - on a rolling basis from September 2024 to May 2025
October 2024 to May 2025 - part-time internships can take place during this period
June to August - full-time or part-time summer internships can take place during this period
Internship Types:
- Semester Internships: part-time internships (up to 20 hours per week) taking place October to May. Internships between 140 hours to 300 hours (you pick the length).
- Summer Internships: part-time or full time taking place June to August. Summer internships are 4-10 weeks (you pick the length).
Please note: all internships must be finished by Friday 29 August 2025.
External Employers
- In order to meet the minimum eligibility criteria as an external organisation you must have Employer’s & Public Liability insurance in place, be able to pay your intern through your company’s PAYE, and be set up with either Companies House or the Charity Commission (or both).
- Salary contribution grants are available to eligible charities and SMEs (larger organisations are still welcome to participate but may not qualify for a grant).

- UROP is now part of the Reading Internship Scheme allowing you to take on academic research interns. For more information on this, please refer to our Academic Handbook in the tile below.
- Grants are not available through the Reading Internship Scheme and all interns will go through Campus Jobs.
