Student Welfare Team
How we help you
We know university can be a challenging time, and that you may experience a range of issues when you are here. You are not alone, and you don’t have to get through it by yourself.
The Student Welfare team is here to help you with any personal difficulties you may experience during your time at the University. We are professional welfare staff who are able to advise and support you on a wide range of personal and well-being issues that may impact your studies and day-to-day life. This could include:
- Settling in and adjusting to university life
- Crisis support
- Difficulties with flat/housemates
- Family or relationship issues
- Harassment and bullying
- Drug or alcohol issues
- If you are victim of violence (crime/sexual/domestic)
- Struggling to manage carer responsibilities
- Worried about how you are feeling and coping with you studies and/or university life
- Concerns about a friend
- If you don’t know where to go for help
We are available Monday – Friday between 10:00 – 16:00.
How to contact us:
There are two ways you can access help from the Student Welfare team:
Appointments
To book an appointment, you can email us at studentwelfare@reading.ac.uk and ask to arrange an appointment with one of the Welfare Officers. Appointments can be in person, or by video or telephone call. Find out what to expect at an appointment.
Drop-in
We offer a drop-in service where you can come along and speak to someone in person.
This is available in the Carrington building, where you can go to the front desk reception and ask to speak to the Welfare Team. You can drop in:
- Monday – Friday between 13:00 -16:00
These will normally be around a 20-minute appointment to see what immediate help you might need on the day and look to get the right follow up supports in place for you in a timely way. This might include looking to book you a longer appointment with your School Welfare Officer.
If you’re not based at the Whiteknights campus and it’s not convenient to drop in, you can call 0118 378 4777 Monday – Friday between 10:00 and 16:00 to speak a member of the team and arrange an appointment if needed.
