Academic Tutor meeting guide
Undergraduate and Foundation Students
The Academic Tutoring system is part of the University’s commitment to ensuring that all students have the opportunity to achieve their full academic potential, and it is your responsibility to engage with your Tutor and prepare for your meetings. This guide helps make the most of your Academic Tutor meetings, taking you through suggested themes, topics and preparation activities.

If there is anything which you feel is affecting your progress or if you’re struggling with your studies, you should raise this with your Academic Tutor. They will be able to give advice on what to do and signpost you to the appropriate support.
Postgraduate Taught Students
Postgraduate study can be more intense than undergraduate level, given the shorter timeframe and the higher level, so we advise you to make the most of the support you have available to enhance your academic progression. You may have benefitted from an Academic or Personal Tutor in your previous studies, and as you begin your postgraduate programme, it might be helpful to reflect on your experience of that and what you found useful/not so useful. Your Academic Tutor may be someone you are familiar with in another role, such as your Programme Director or Pathway Lead. This generic guide provides suggested themes, topics and preparation activities to help you to make the most of your meetings during your programme at Reading. We suggest you should meet your Academic Tutor at least three or four times during your programme.

Keeping a record of your meetings
You should keep a record of your meetings, what you discussed, and any actions to take from them. Keeping a record of your development will help you to reflect on your performance and progress - you can revisit these at a later date by yourself, or in the next meeting with your Academic Tutor.
