Month 9 - How to continue networking
We hope that you have found mentoring to be a great way to help you learn more about yourself and identify next steps in relation to your career interests. It’s important to remember that, knowingly or not, you have also developed a level of networking skills from having your mentoring partnership with your Thrive mentor.
You may be thinking what next, and how do you use these skills to help you going forward. Here’s what we would suggest:
- Create a LinkedIn account, or use one you already have, to continue growing your network.
- Add your mentor on LinkedIn if you haven’t already, and use this as a platform to find opportunities.
- Access LinkedIn Learning through your student credentials (this is free to UoR students), the section on ‘networking and LinkedIn’ has some useful tools to help you use your networking skills going forward.
Mentoring may be useful for you in the future too, perhaps when contemplating a job change, within a future workplace to find out more about other roles available, or even if you’d like to support someone in their career journey.
The Careers Team
Remember that you have access to the Careers Team on campus. We are based in the Carrington building and can support you with your career next steps, from paid internships, placements, career consultations and more. You can read more about our services and perhaps talk through options with your mentor to narrow down what to do next.
Remember you can access all 10 talking points to feel free to look through them all, find topics that interest you most or mix up the order however suits you and your mentor.
